Brook G. Bangsboll, OMM, MSM, CD, MA

Lieutenant-Colonel RCAF (Ret)

Born at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Brook comes from a long line of military service.

  • On his mother’s side of the family, most notably was Captain Garrett, who fought alongside  General Brock at the Battle of Queenston Heights during the War of 1812, as well as Grandfather/Lieutenant Clifford Henry, who volunteered and fought with the Canadian Army during the First World War at Passchendaele, Hill 70 and Vimy Ridge.
  • On his father’s side, Brook’s Grandfather Frederik Sorensen-Bangsboll, a true man-of-the sea, rose to the rank of Commodore in the Danish Navy, while Brook’s Danish-born father (2019 US Special Forces Hall of Honor Recipient, Lieutenant-Colonel Leif Bangsboll and the subject of Onward to Valhalla) served in the Danish Navy, the Norwegian Air Force and the United States Army.
  • Both of Brook’s brothers served as officers in the Canadian Navy and United States Army respectively.

Brook followed in his father’s footsteps, joining the U.S. Army after finishing high school in Toronto, Canada. Upon completion of the United States Military Academy (West Point) Preparatory College, Brook returned to Canada and ultimately pursued a military career with the Canadian Armed Forces.

A professionally trained and tested Senior Logistics Officer/Senior Manager in the field of transportation and air movements, Brook has over 30 years of experience in the Royal Canadian Air Force, honing his skills at the national level, as well as on international assignments and deployed operations.

Brook retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in August 2020 as a Lieutenant-Colonel after an exciting and rewarding career, and recently began a new career with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires at their national office in Ottawa.

Brook is married to Jan Kennedy of Montréal and they have two fabulous children: a son who lives and works in Toronto and a daughter currently attending university in London, Ontario.

Brook G. Bangsboll, OMM, MSM, CD, MA

As a senior officer with a military career that spans over 36 years of service in both the U.S. Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force, a Master’s degree in Military Studies from the Royal Military College of Canada, and a diploma from the United States Air Force Command and Staff College, I am confident in the accuracy of this work and in my creative ability to bring my father’s stories to life.

My extensive research has taken me from his personal records (including medal citations and photographs) and family genealogy (diligently traced by a relative back to ancient Viking kings) through military after-action reports, interviews with military members who knew or worked with my father, and documentation from the Royal Danish Archives.

Onward to Valhalla is not just a war story. It is an epic account of an extraordinary man who accomplished incredible things throughout his lifetime, in particular during his distinguished military career.
